Profile: Richie Vernon is an athletic player who has impressed at number eight for Scotland, despite being inexperienced. He has spent most of his professional career at the Glasgow Warriors but will join the Sale Sharks after the World Cup. Vernon has also played Sevens for his country and represented Scotland at U18 and U19 levels. Vernon was set for a career as a doctor - he studied medicine at Edinburgh University - before deciding to concentrate on furthering his ambitions as a professional rugby player. His brother, Dave, is a rugby league player who plays for Edinburgh Eagles.
